about

This is a song written for and with our friend Lynn, after she won a raffle at a charity benefit show we played quite some time ago. The "prize" was that Slum Summer would write and record a song based on whatever prompt the winner gave us. This is the result of that process, based on a short story Lynn gave us to work from.

Any proceeds from the song are going to be donated to the local charity, We All We Got San Diego. But I highly recommend listening or downloading the track for free and then donating to them directly at www.weallwegotsd.com/donate to maximize the money that goes to them (rather than Bancamp fees).

Thanks, Lynn!

lyrics

I let myself think of you for the first time in a year
Now I open up the curtains and find you here
“This is a gift,” you said, “though I can’t turn down donations.”
I was overwhelmed, and under-dressed for the occasion

And I’d been working too hard

You gave away the flowers that I sent you
Exactly as I hoped you would do
The days pass through the hour glass
And slide out of our view
But this is one we know was put to use

I opened up the bar, funny, I used to close them
And I sometimes can’t believe all of the choices that I’ve chosen
But it’s Sunday, it’s June
There is magic in these afternoons
And surely it will send you back here soon

And meanwhile it is beautiful to wait
